IDAHO ALPINE CLUB MARCH MEETING: A TRIP DOWN THE OWYHEE @ DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP Meeting Room

The Owyhee river system is one of the largest intact shrub-steppe ecosystems in the Columbia River Basin. Each spring between March and mid-June when runoff is high, rafters, kayakers and canoeists can float the river as it courses through remote canyons carved out of the high desert plateau.

In 2013 Bob Tyler and some friends floated the South Fork of the Owyhee from 45 Ranch in southwestern Idaho to Three Forks in southeastern Oregon. Low water levels, headwinds and land portages were all part of the challenge of navigating this rocky, untamed wilderness river that relatively few river enthusiasts encounter.

Come and enjoy Bob’s images of this unspoiled area that rewards visitors seeking an experience of unsurpassed solitude. The meeting is open to the public and all outdoor enthusiasts are invited to attend.
